Luxury alcohol free retreat: what US$10,000 should buy you
Real published prices from famous clinics, resorts and sober retreats, what the same US$10,000 buys at each, and the questions worth asking before you pay anyone. Including me.

Please read this first. If you drink heavily or every day, or use other drugs daily, stopping suddenly can be dangerous. Talk to a doctor before you stop. The Quiet Month is not medical, not therapy and not rehab. In a crisis, call your local emergency number or find a free helpline at findahelpline.com. More in our questions.
If you are searching for a luxury alcohol free retreat, you will find beautiful photos and very few clear prices. This guide puts real, published prices from well-known clinics, resorts and sober retreats side by side, works out what US$10,000 buys at each, and lists what "luxury" should actually mean when there is no wine list. The Quiet Month costs US$10,000 for a month, so I have an interest. I will show you our gaps as well as theirs.
About the numbers. Every price below is a published "from" price I found in October 2026, linked at the end. Prices change, some are in pounds, and many places add tax or service charges. Check the source before you book anything, including with me.
The short answer
- At a famous medical-wellness clinic, US$10,000 buys roughly one week, sometimes a little more, sharing a room.
- At a high-end wellness resort, it buys about one to two weeks, depending on season and room.
- On a retreat directory, the one luxury 28-day sober retreat I found was listed at US$22,000. Simpler 30-day sober stays start around US$4,000.
- At The Quiet Month, it buys a one-month programme. Your private flat is extra, and you book it yourself.

The per-night maths, using the lowest prices: the cheapest Chiva-Som stay is about US$740 a night before any service charge, SHA about US$860, and The Retreat Palm about US$625. The two clinics priced in pounds come out at roughly £830 a night (Lanserhof, 7 nights) and £1,100 a night (Chenot, 7 nights), before you convert to dollars.
What do these places do well? A great deal. Beautiful rooms, large trained teams, spas, and at the clinic end, doctors and tests on site. If you want medical checks or a spa every afternoon, they are the right call, and I mean that kindly. The question is simply whether that is what you need. If what you want is a long, calm stretch without alcohol, the length of the stay may matter more than the thread count.

Alcohol-free by rule, or just "not included"?
This is the question most people forget to ask. Many luxury wellness places run their programmes without alcohol, but that is not the same as an alcohol-free stay. The Retreat Palm's package, for example, lists alcohol under "not included", which tells you it is not part of the price. It does not tell you whether the bar is open. The Chenot and Lanserhof pages I read do not mention alcohol at all.
None of that is a criticism. A clinic is a clinic, and a resort is a resort. But if a month without a glass in hand is the whole point, ask in writing: is alcohol served anywhere on site, and do other guests drink? At a sober retreat, the answer should be a clear no. At The Quiet Month, it is a rule for everyone, me included: no alcohol, no smoking, no drugs, for the whole month.
What "luxury" should mean when there is no bar
Take away the wine list and the minibar, and luxury becomes something simpler. I would judge any luxury alcohol-free stay on six things:
- Time. Is it long enough for a new routine to stop feeling new? Most clinic and resort programmes are one to three weeks.
- Attention. How many guests share each host or team? Four people at a table is a very different week from forty in a dining room.
- Food. Real meals you would want to keep eating at home, not a punishment menu.
- Privacy. Your own room or flat, your own key, your passport and phone always with you.
- Honesty in writing. A clear "included" list, clear refund terms and the real name of the person you pay.
- Safety. A health check before you join, travel insurance, and a plain statement of what they are not.
Not rehab, and why that matters
A luxury alcohol-free retreat and a rehab centre can look alike in photos. They are very different. A retreat is for adults who can stop drinking safely and want a calm stretch without it. If you drink heavily or every day, stopping suddenly can be dangerous, and the right first step is a doctor, not a retreat. The healingholidays.com guide to sober retreats, published in August 2026, says it plainly: these retreats are not alcohol rehabilitation centres
, and anyone physically dependent on alcohol should get medical advice before stopping. I agree with every word. I wrote a longer guide to the differences: sober month retreat, sober living or a rehab centre.
What US$10,000 buys at The Quiet Month
Here is ours, line by line. The same list is on the price page and in the written agreement.
Included
- A whole month, not a week. The minimum stay is one month.
- All shared meals, low-carb and keto-style, with intermittent fasting. I set the daily eating window and adjust it to each guest. Anyone who feels unwell eats, and nobody is pushed.
- Daily exercise together at a pace that suits you, with licensed local guides for anything with real risk.
- Daily meditation, short and always optional.
- Outings and activities, plus local transport during the month.
- Company: never more than four guests, and me, at meals, on walks and over coffee in the evening.
Not included
- Your private flat. I choose a one-bedroom flat about ten minutes' walk from me and send you the listing; you book and pay it directly. So the true total is US$10,000 plus a flat whose price you see first.
- Flights, visas, personal spending, and travel insurance with medical and evacuation cover, which is required.
Without the flat, the programme is about US$333 a day. Longer stays cost less per month: two months are US$19,000 and three are US$27,000.
Where our US$10,000 falls short
A fair comparison lists our gaps too.
- No spa and no room service. If you want a massage every afternoon, a resort is the better choice.
- No medical team. I am not a doctor, a counsellor or a coach. The Quiet Month is not medical, not therapy and not rehab. Every guest brings a doctor's fit-to-join letter.
- No published location. After a video call, if we both want to go ahead, I tell you the country and city before you sign anything.
- No promised results. I can promise a calm routine and good company. I can't promise how you will feel on day 30.
How screening, payments and guest freedoms work is on the safety and trust page.

Questions to ask any luxury retreat before you pay
- Is the room included, and is the price per person or per room?
- Is alcohol served on site, or simply not included?
- How many guests at a time, and how many staff or hosts?
- What is extra: tax, service charge, transfers, sessions?
- Who exactly do I pay, and what are the refund terms in writing?
- What health check do you ask for before I join?

Questions people ask
How much does a luxury alcohol-free retreat cost?
Published prices I found in October 2026 ranged from about US$600 to over US$1,000 a night at well-known resorts and clinics, usually for one to three weeks. A 28-day luxury sober retreat was listed at US$22,000. The Quiet Month is US$10,000 for a one-month programme; your flat is extra.
Is a luxury alcohol-free retreat a rehab centre?
No. A retreat is for adults who can stop drinking safely. If you drink heavily or every day, talk to a doctor before you stop; stopping suddenly can be dangerous. The Quiet Month is not rehab and not medical.
Is alcohol allowed at all during The Quiet Month?
No. The rule for the whole month is no alcohol, no smoking and no drugs, for everyone. Prescribed medicine is always allowed.
Why is the flat not included in the US$10,000?
So you have your own private place, booked in your own name, with your own key. You see the listing and its real price before you book or pay anything.
